The beginnings of an iconic course
The creation of Alhama Signature Golf began in 2006, when the legendary Jack Nicklaus became directly involved in the design and supervision of this emblematic project. Known worldwide as the “Golden Bear,” Nicklaus imprinted his vision on what would become one of the most outstanding courses in the region. The layout of the course was the first step toward constructing a course that bears his unmistakable signature.
“A course to enjoy, not to punish, although you have to add some spark.».
«A fantastic course, but... when can I come to play tomorrow??»

Jack Nicklaus' personal touch
During his first visit in July 2007, Nicklaus observed the terrain and, with his own handwriting, sketched what we now know as the layout of Alhama Signature Golf. Inspired by the movement of the Mediterranean Sea waves along the Murcia coast, Jack Nicklaus sought to reflect that undulation in the golf course.
Later, in March 2008, he returned to fine-tune the details and give precise instructions on key elements of the course, such as the shape and placement of the bunkers, the integration of the grass with the natural surroundings, and the landscaping details that would ultimately define the course’s character.
Finally, in 2009, the course opened its doors to the public, quickly becoming a must-visit destination for golfers seeking a challenge worthy of Nicklaus’ design.
An eco-friendly and sustainable course
One of the aspects that make Alhama Signature Golf unique is its commitment to sustainability. The course uses Paspalum, an innovative and resilient grass that not only tolerates irrigation with low-quality water but also withstands high levels of salinity. This plant not only conserves water but also effectively combats weeds, helping to maintain the course in optimal condition without relying on environmentally aggressive methods.
This eco-friendly approach reflects the course’s commitment to a more sustainable future, ensuring that Alhama Signature Golf remains a benchmark both in design and environmental conservation.
